Introduction

Map_c Toolbox is a application designed to perform the same map_c file functions as the Java based CMap tool currently provided as a map building tool at the AAA site:

Assumptions:

If two files exist with the same filename but with the extensions .tga and .tga_table they are assumed to be an IL2 formatted file pair.

If only a single file with a certain filename (extension .tga) exists it is assumed to be a "raw" map_c file (i.e. editable and not IL2 formatted).

Using Map_c Toolbox

Creating an IL2 Formatted File Pair (xxx.tga and xxx.tga_table)

1) Click on the "Open" button or use "File|Open" menu item to open a source file

2) An open file dialog box is displayed, select the source file and click "Open" in the open file dialog box.

2) Click on the "Create" button or the "Modify|Create IL2 format" menu item.

3) A save file dialog box is opened, select a folder and enter/select a filename for the IL2 formatted file pair and click "Save" in the save file dialog box.

4) Two files are created in the save folder, both with the selected filename but with the two different extensions (.tga_table and .tga). During the conversion process a progress bar is displayed.

NOTE: It is important that IL2 formatted files have the same filename.

Assembling a Targa Image from an IL2 Formatted map_c File Pair

1) Click on the "Open" button or use "File|Open" menu item to open an IL2 formatted map_c file

2) Click on the "Reassemble" button or the "Modify|Reassemble to Targa" menu item.

3) A save dialog box is opened, select/create a folder and enter/select a filename for the Targa file and click "Save"

4) A reassembled Targa file is created in the save folder using the entered/selected filename. During the reassembly process a progress bar is displayed.

Cropping a Source Image to Fit on a 32 x 32 Pixel Grid

1) Click on the "Open" button or use "File|Open" menu item to open an uncropped map_c file

2) Click on the "Align" button or the "Modify|Align to 32 pixel grid" menu item. During the alignment process a progress bar is displayed.

3) Following cropping to a 32 pixel grid the file is still open and may be either IL2 formatted by clicking on the "Create" button or the "Modify|Create IL2 format" menu item or left "as is" for further editing by simply exiting Map_c Toolbox (exiting will close the file).

Thanks in advance to LAL_RONE for letting me
(hopefully) use his Normandy map as example.
