VENGEANCE ! at IMPHAL

a 19-mission campaign in which you will fly the Vultee Vengeance dive-bomber for RAF 110 Squadron during the Battle of Imphal, India in 1944.

Japanese forces have crossed the Chindwin River with the intention of capturing Imphal and its "Churchill supplies." Up until now the front in northern Burma has been stabilized on the Chindwin with the only action being by the offensive expeditions of the Chindits and Marauders toward Myitkina, in far northeast Burma. But now the Japanese are invading India! British and Indian troops are following orders to fall back from the Chindwin toward Tamu and the Kabaw Valley where they will form defensive boxes to prevent the Japanese from taking the main road to Palel.\nEnemy troops have also advanced up the Tiddim Road, south of Imphal (off the IL-2 map) in an effort to encircle Imphal. RAF No. 110 Squadron flying the American-made Vultee Vengeance dive-bomber has moved to Imphal Main airfield (historically they were at Kumbhirgram). Just recently they were in the Arakan defending against a Japanese offensive into southeast India (present day Bangladesh) where the enemy invasion was repulsed. Now the VENGEANCE will be tested once again at the Battle for Imphal.

Tactics: Fly in a V formation. Cruising speed is 290km/h or 180mph. Altitude to target is 3000m or 10-12,000 feet. Approach to target: Leader rocks his wings, flights move to echelon starboard prior to peeling-off to port. Over target, engage dive flaps, wing over and dive on target. Drop bombs at 4,000 - 3,500 feet then pull out of the dive and head home.
