Хорошая карта.

Только аэродромы бы травяные = крашеные зеленкой бетонки из первого Ила заменить на что-то типа с карты Бессарабия. А вот крупномасштабную карту наоборот лучше приблизить к топографическим как раз из родного Ила.

Da. I agree, K-B. But this will have to wait for the next stage in the map, as I need to take a break for a few weeks. ;-)

I quite understand you, mapmaking is like hard labour. Have all the time you need.

Mandrill7!
I congratulate you with the beta-release of your map «Army Group Centre».
Beautiful map! Perfectly executed map_t (successful combination of beautiful textures), map_c (especially admired your meandering rivers).
Very good and well established buildings and facilities in cities, towns and fields. Forests are along the meandering rivers, but do not go into the water. Perfectly executed details.

I am a little confused by a standard airfield. Can they improve a little in terms of different installation ( taxi & stay) plates? Files for minimap - ed_map need final adjustment. This is just a drawing?

Your map is interesting, beautifully executed, successfully built up the objects.

Sorry for my english.

Thank you for your kind words.

It is pretty obvious that I did not pay enough attention to the airfields. Is there a tutorial on how to use alternatives to the standard plates that I could look at?

There are two main possibilities concerning the alternative airfields .
1. Use of blank plates, as on the default map of Bessarabia.
2. Use of Zuti's Friction mod.
bothg possibilities were discussed in detail at SAS .

And the present wip tutorial about airfield building >

And the very useful link by =FPS=Cutlass at this page:

(I hope the author would not mind me giving this link)

Spassiba, Uzin. I will read these in the next day or so.

I have another problem re airfields. The only photo I could find of a period airfield was the photo set of Smolensk on wwiimaps. Most of the airfields on my map would have been rough fields. But the pre war VVS bases and the city air ports would have been concrete and more complex.

Does anyone have any idea where I could find more information?

I understand how hard you worked on this map.
Your airfields can be left by default.

Now, the ground is a remake minimap files ed_map.tga (ed_m01.tga).....

Everything else is done well

Here is the direct link to large discussion on methods for making airfields :

Cheers! Thanks again, Uzin. I will try and check everything out by the weekend.

mandrill7!
Thank you!
But .. Seschinskaya was a very large base, with concrete runways, it seems. And airfields to be changed. Unecha - a huge railroad center. Worked hard on it long-range aviation.
Let's wait!

mandrill7 07.03.2011 04:02

Yes, a lot of things could be more researched and improved. I would be very happy with diagrams of all the airfields. But so far, I have only found Smolensk.

Unecha was just a small town. I will check to see if there were a large # of Rail junctions there.

If you find anything, pls let me know.

In 1931, Sesche began to build a large military airfield for heavy aircraft with heated concrete strip. Photo - much to change - do not know.

mandrill7 07.03.2011 05:49

Aah, ponyatna. I used the Red Army survey map of Unecha from the early 1930's and maybe this was too early.

I read the Wikipedia texts on all of the towns and cities and I knew that Unecha grew a lot. But almost all the towns and cities in the area grew massively after the War and it is difficult to figure out exactly what they would like in the 1940's.

It is possible to get modern Google-earth shots of most of the airfields. But again, that does not always help you understand what they looked like during the war. There is a standard D-shape airfield for many of the air bases and I am guessing that this was the style in the 1950's. It may not help for World War 2.

Yes, and there is another good site which has just been mentioned on the Donbass thread.

mandrill7 03.04.2011 18:32

Rebyata!

I have a couple of questions.

I am making tiles for cities and towns for my Russian maps. I have re made the Romania factory tile into a city tile with grass lawns and asphalt streets. And I am remaking the Romania country tile into a "small town" tile with grass lawns and dirt streets.

Did Russian small towns - (I am thinking of towns of about 5,000 people. I am not thinking about little villages of 50 or 100 people.) - have indoor plumbing and functioning indoor toilets in the 1940's?

Did those same small towns (5,000 people) have asphalt streets? Or dirt streets?

Thanks for any help!

andrey65 03.04.2011 20:24

Excuse my English!
In small towns there was no asphalt. And the improvement was not!
It can be viewed in the IL-2.

andrey65 06.05.2011 16:34

have news?
I want this map!
