Army Group Centre/Группа армий "Центр" (made by mandrill7)

I have a map for Belarus which covers the area Polotsk-Vyazma-Bryansk-Gomel-Bobruisk.

I gave up working on it about a year ago because it was taking so much time. Now I am starting to do more work on it.

The basic map is done and about half the roads, railways and airfields are put in. Because the map is so large, much of the terrain is still unfinished.

I anticipate that it might be ready to populate in the autumn if I keep working on it. While I do not want to be a "quitter", a map of this size takes months and months to complete.

1940's maps of Belarus, Ukraine?
Can you help me ask on the Aviaskins board for guys who have city plans of Smolensk, Orsha, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Gomel', Bryansk or Dnepropetrovsk? I have nothing except modern maps and these are very inaccurate for 1940's.

As well, I badly need a detailed map of the Dnepr from Kanev to Dnepropetrovsk. The maps I have are modern and therefore completely inaccurate because of the big new reservoirs.

Any help appreciated.

My Army Group Centre map should be available as a WiP in a week or two.

The map will be done, except for populating and some tidying up. I will be getting a new (and far more powerful) computer in a few weeks and that will be handy to populate the map.

It is taking a little longer than I thought. I have done the airfields and the big cities - Mogilev, Vitebsk, Polotsk, Gomel, Borisov, Babruisk, Orsha and Bryansk - and also most of the smaller cities - Vyazma, Roslavl, etc.

I need a map of Smolensk from the 1940's and then I can do it too.

I am finishing a template for the small towns and then I can do them as well.

The map is currently perfectly flyable.

mandrill7,

http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/home_page_007.htm

Here you will find the necessary parts to you from the big map of the Smolensk region (1937 -1939):

Here is the translation of this page:

P / S. Please give a link where to look for your project?

mandrill7 08.10.2010 01:55

Spassiba, Mixx. I will check out that site a little more.

Actually, I found a street map of Smolensk on the wwii-photos-maps.com site that I can use, along with Google Earth to give me an good idea of the size and shape of World War Two Smolensk and so I can finish it.

My Belarus map has not been uploaded yet.

BTW, I am also beginning to work a little on a "Cherkassy Pocket" project which will cover the Dnepr from Dnepropetrovsk to just south of Kiev. I have the 1:50,000 maps for the area from the wwii site, but there are 3 or 4 missing from the site.

Do you know an alternate Web source for these maps?

Till 1968 the city was called Gzhatsk. Into 1968 city has been renamed in "Gagarin" in honour of the first-ever cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin who was born in 1934 in village Klushino close by a city and the perished in 1968.

mandrill7 28.10.2010 16:54

Thanks.

I preferred the green texture for riverbanks.
