G.55.S Centauro (Silurante / Torpedo - Fighter)

anean Sea. By late 1942 the aging Sparviero was facing continually improving Allied fighters and anti aircraft defences.leading to the General staff exploring the idea of using a fighter aircraft for torpedo attacks. A fighter operating from Italian coasts with an operational range of 300–400 km (190-250 mi), would be capable of delivering a torpedo at high speed and evade enemy fighters or engage them after the attack run.

Fiat was asked to begin studies for a G.55 conversion to carry a 680 kg (1,500 lb) Whitehead torpedo, a shorter and more compact version of the standard weapon used by the SM.79. With the decision to develop a G.57, whose specifications included the capability of carrying torpedoes, all similar work on the G.55 torpedo fighter was suspended. Later, after the G.57 project was dropped, and given the Regia Aeronautica 's continuing need for an aircraft that could replace the SM.79, the Regia Aeronautica engineers undertook the task of converting the Centauro for the torpedo attack role. A production aircraft (military serial number MM. 91086) was modified to carry a 920 kg (2,030 lb), 5.46 m (17.91 ft) long torpedo. The radiator for the engine liquid cooler, positioned in the fuselage belly, under the cockpit area, was split in two, gaining a 90 cm (35 in) slot where two racks were mounted to carry the torpedo. The tailwheel strut was lengthened and equipped with a strengthened shock absorber, and a protective cone was added in front of the tailwheel. The two 12.7 mm (.5 in) Breda-SAFAT machine guns were removed, leaving the aircraft with the three 20 mm cannons only as fixed armament. Weight: 2,600-4,100 kg [17]

The aircraft, designated G.55S, first flew in August 1944 and was successfully tested in January 1945, [10] piloted by Adriano Mantelli. Despite the cumbersome external load, performance was good and the handling acceptable. The Regia Aeronautica ordered a pre-series of 10 examples and a production series of 100 aircraft, but the conclusion of the war put an end to the project. The G.55S prototype survived the war and, after being converted back to the Serie I standard, it became the first G.55 to be delivered to the newly formed Aeronautica Militare Italiana (AMI).

A note about creating this addition:

I know many modders just get on with the Job & then post their amazing works and say very little within the post. I applaud them ! As you probably know by now i like to chat a little bit about what i do I have said this before, it was a tough job for me at least to get my part of this addition finished. Although my knowledge & experience for IL-2 modding is far better these days, creating a new slot aircraft for 4.13.4 always seems to present more difficulties than i remember experiencing in the past. I hope i get my terminology correct when i say, as many will know it is often more difficult to reverse engineer something than forward engineer. Creating this Spitfire VII was a good example of this. Because this aircraft & cockpit are dedicated & that i always now to integrate the best i can from HSFX too, it can start to get really messy when your combining i all into a new addition & new slot. I can't stress enough how many times i needed to use this following tool >>> Hier.him mesh name utility (mainly useful for telling you which are the missing meshes, which need to be found or added)... I created this tool for myself after years of frustrating years of modding. I now use it for every new mod i make involving Hier.him files. Simply put this tool will save you a lot of time & stress it's not because i created this tool when i say , if you are a modder , try to get to know this tool

This is the new typhoon 2021 mod pack from FM.
This a remake of the previous pack using the typhoon model posted by Ranwers several years ago as a base which also used the Tempest as a base not any more!

After an extensive remake involving several hundred hours work i think we now have a more accurate representation of the Hawker Typhoon.
The remake includes to many changes improvements to list in total these are some of the main ones:
• all new gear, gear doors ,wheels, tail wheel Typhoon type not Tempest type
• all new engine cowling, props D0, D1, ROT1, exhaust stacks, fairings
• cockpits internal & external from previous Typhoon mod with gun site added for early model
• corrected wing sections with cut outs for landing lights nav lights, round leading edge and wing root corrections etc
• fuselage rebuild car door type, later model
• tail rebuild with correct tail nav lights & housings added corrected stabs, corrected keel rudder round tops etc
• new canopy's car door type and bubble top
• new cannon
• new flaps
• updated pilot live & dead models
• all new damage meshes
• all new shadow meshes, LODS, etc
• all new E type drop tanks, textures by me
• all new rocket rails bomb racks etc
• all new internal textures etc

Whats new?

• we have added Greif11's cockpits to all models as a standard feature along with some new prop textures from Greif11; check out the options folders to add the prop rot textures;
• the IL-2M early and late models are now fitted with the correct wing plan straight wing instead of the arrow wing plan a major omission on my part :oops:
• there have been a few tweaks added like removing the static sight from the type 3 series model a few shadow fixes and other inaccuracies;
• the carb intake classes and options are now included and all other posted fixes.

Hopefully this will be the last installment of fixes etc. Though as usual there is always some thing to do when the packs become larger containing thousands of files. Anyhoo hope this is an improvement over 1.0
