To put it simply, yes you are right.
But aerodynamics is a very complicated thing.
A real plane has many more interesting parameters.
The flight model in IL-2 is greatly simplified and NOT perfect!

Yes very complicated in real life vs game. Is prop wash modeled? It has a very big effect on flight performance. Even exhaust dumps. On the Spitfire for instance, having the dumps point towards the back (rather than angled downwards) netted a 10 mph gain with ZERO increase in horsepower!

As far as I know, in IL-2 there is no simulation “Even exhaust dumps” for piston internal combustion engines
